Shopify SEO for stores that should rank and don't
Shopify SEO means fixing the problems the platform creates for itself: duplicate collection URLs, variant parameter bloat, faceted navigation and app scripts that drag speed down. I audit your store with a tool I built specifically for Shopify, then fix the theme - not rent you another app.

Why do Shopify stores struggle with SEO?
Because the platform optimises for selling, not for crawling. Out of the box, Shopify serves every product at two URLs, generates a tag page for every collection filter, appends ?variant= parameters that multiply your indexable URLs, and lets every installed app inject its scripts into every page. None of this is visible in the admin. All of it is visible to Googlebot.
The pattern I see over and over: a store with 300 products and 9,000 URLs in Google's index, where the pages actually earning revenue compete for crawl attention with tag-page noise. Meanwhile the theme loads fourteen app scripts on a product page that uses three of them.
What the audit covers
URL architecture
Collection duplicates, tag pages, variant parameters - what should be indexed, what should be canonicalised, and what your internal links actually point at.
Faceted navigation
Which filter combinations deserve to exist as crawlable pages (they can be your best category landers) and which are burning crawl budget.
Structured data
Product, Offer, review and merchant listing schema at theme level - most themes ship half-broken markup and most apps layer duplicates on top. Check yours with the Schema Markup Checker.
Speed and script weight
Which apps load where, what they cost in Core Web Vitals terms, and which ones can be conditionally loaded or removed.
AI answer visibility
Product recommendations increasingly happen inside ChatGPT and AI Overviews. Clean product schema and quotable product content feed straight into my AEO work.
What about international stores?
Shopify Markets and multi-store setups each have their own hreflang traps - Markets generates it automatically but only within its own structure, and multi-store setups need it built by hand. If you sell across countries, this overlaps with my international SEO service, and the audit covers both together.
Questions store owners ask
Do I need an SEO app for Shopify?
Usually not - and several popular ones make stores slower, which costs more than the app fixes. Most Shopify SEO problems are theme-level template issues: canonical logic, collection URL structure, schema markup. Those get fixed once in code, not rented monthly from an app.
How do you handle Shopify's duplicate collection URLs?
Shopify serves the same product at /products/handle and /collections/name/products/handle. The platform canonicalises correctly by default, but themes frequently break this with internal links pointing at the duplicate. I audit which version your internal links and structured data actually reference, and align everything to the canonical.
Will you edit our theme code directly?
Yes, if you want me to. I work in Liquid, and changes ship through a duplicated theme so nothing goes live without your approval. If you have a theme developer, I write the tickets and review their changes instead.
Does Shopify Plus change anything for SEO?
A few things worth having: proper multi-store international setups with real hreflang control, checkout extensibility that reduces script weight, and higher API limits for auditing large catalogs. But the core template-level problems are identical on every plan.
Can you fix Core Web Vitals on Shopify?
Mostly yes. The usual culprits are app scripts loading on every page, oversized hero images and theme JavaScript. The slow part is almost never Shopify's servers - it's what the theme and apps ask the browser to do.
